Hellifield Sports FC  4  Sedbergh Wanderers FC  1 (AET)

Morrison Cup Final

Hellifield Sports lifted the Morrison Cup after a 4-1 victory over Sedbergh Wanderers. This was a feisty and competitive encounter with the winners requiring extra time to seal the game. Hellifield, winners of Division 3 in the Craven League had to withstand early pressure defending stoutly and relying on spasmodic breaks. It was they who took the lead in the 33rd minute through a Carl Stanford free kick. In the second half Sedbergh increased the tempo and scorned several chances before Aaron Siemaszko scored from the penalty spot with 5 minutes to go, much to the delight of their travelling support. In extra time a superbly struck shot from Kris Attewell restored the lead and Sebergh’s task was made harder when their goal scorer was sent off. Stanford completed his hat trick with two further goals. Both teams should be congratulated for a good old fashioned game of football full of pride and energy, full of skill to keep the large crowd on their toes.

Morrison Cup Final

Ingleton FC 4 Horton FC 2

Craven League side Horton FC who were appearing in their first District Association Cup Final gave an excellent account of themselves against the experienced North Lancs League side Ingleton FC in front of the largest crowd seen at Settle Utd AFC for many years.  Both Clubs can be proud large support that helped create a wonderful atmosphere full of good banter and humour.

Understandably Ingleton had much of the early possession taking the lead on the quarter hour, when Man of the Match Joe Towers scored the first of his hat-trick goals, however the Horton team stuck to their task never shirking a tackle and were rewarded with equalising goal on the stroke of half time when Danny Richardson coolly slotted home a penalty kick following an hand ball by an Ingleton defender.

Two early second half goals gave Ingleton the control but surprisingly Horton pulled a goal back when substitute Kyle Frik headed home a corner on seventy five minutes, which had the Horton supporters roaring with delight; however Ingleton clinched the cup with a fourth goal on 82 minutes.

Craven FA President, Peter Marsden presented the trophies and congratulated both teams on a good old fashioned game of football, full of pride and energy, which was fine example of grassroots football, excellently refereed by Matthew Buckmaster and his experienced assistants, Stuart Hoyle and Noel McEvoy, giving him wonderful support throughout the game.
