FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION LONG SERVICE AWARDS

Fifty years of dedicated service to local football by Mr George
Evans of Barnoldswick and Mr Rex Geldard of Skipton was recognised at a
Executive meeting of the Craven Football Association, when the West Riding
County Football Association representative to the Football Association and
recently retired Chief Executive Officer to the WRCFA, Mr Roy Carter, presented
George and Rex with the Football Association Long Service Award.

George had a fine pedigree to follow, in that, his uncle
from County Durham, Matt Evans was a former Football League Referee. He started
as a fifteen year old refereeing in the Craven League whilst turning out
occasionally for the Earby Youth Club football team in the Colne and Nelson
league, in which he later officiated.

He also officiated in various other Leagues in the locality,
including a spell in the Huddersfield League at the same time as he was a
student at the local college. Whilst at the College he acted as a Tutor to 51 fellow
students, who enrolled on the Referees course that he had organised and 50 of
these were successful. George has had many roles within the game of football
including a referees examiner and assessor.

George retired from refereeing in 1987, having joined the
Craven District Football Association two years earlier and he was made a Life
Member in 2006.

Rex started refereeing in the Craven League in 1958 after
qualifying while on National Service in the Army a year previously, and retired
after officiating in the League for 25 years. Rex joined the management team of
the Craven League in 1969 and is a Life Member of both the Craven League and
Craven Referee’s Society where he has held various official roles over the
years.

The training sessions for the Craven Minor Squad will take place each Thursday at Sandylands All Weather Pitch, Skipton from 9:00pm to 10:00pm, for further details, please contact either the Craven Minors Secretary, Mr Ian Longden on 01756 795034 or the Craven Minors Manager, Mr Mark McGlincy on 01756 753271 .

The coaching team Mr Mark McGlincy, Mr Justin Crowther and Mr Ian Longden will be pleased to welcome any Players who are interested in representing the Craven Football Association in the West Riding County Football Associations Minor Cup Competion, a player should have been under 17 on the 31 August 2011 to be eligible to play in the squad.
