30 Year Award
Derek Knowles – Rimington FC
David Buckle – Rimington FC
John Hartley – Rimington FC
40 Year Award
Jack Varley – Skipton LMS FC
Roger Worthington – Settle United FC
Keith Walker – Settle United FC
The foreword in the Presentation Evening Programme sums up the whole concept behind the awards and it is is hoped that they will become an Annual Event:-
“Football is the most popular sport in the country with articles on teams and players appearing on the back of every newspaper and in the media on a daily basis.
Those relate to the top echelons of the game and account for approximately 10% of the football which is played. The remaining 90% is at grass-roots where games are played on local parks by those who enjoy the game for what it is and not for what they can take out of it.
This area has one thing in common – it cannot function without the assistance of the many volunteers who take on the roles of secretaries, treasurers, chairmen etc – indeed, any job which is required within grass-roots football.
These people are the lifeblood of the gamer and give up not only time but sometimes their own finances to ensure that the organisation(be that a Club,League,District Association etc) that they are working for continues to exist.
The County FA wishes to recognise the valuable contribution from our volunteers and has received nominations from the local District Associations of those who are to be recipients of a new County FA Award for services to Football.”
The Award was the brain child of the current President of the West Riding County FA, Mr Peter Marsden, who is well known throughout the Craven area. The Awards were presented by Mr Marsden at the West Riding County Headquarters on Tuesday 3 February 2009.
