CRAVEN CHALLENGE CUP FINAL FRIDAY 13 MAY 2016, KICK OFF 6:30PM

May 10, 2016

The Craven Challenge Cup Final between Settle United AFC and Skipton LMS FC will take place on Friday 13 May 2016. kick off 6:30pm at Skipton Town AFC ground.

Skipton LMS and Settle United earned the right to contest the Craven Challenge Cup Final on this Friday night at Skipton Town AFC; 6:30pm kick off. Rimington winners of the Craven Cup for ten of the last fifteen finals were defeated by Skipton LMS on a 6-3 margin. In a pulsating first half the teams were locked at 3-3 at the break, only for LMS to boss the second half and win comfortably. Goalscorers for LMS were Fred Midgley, Oli Hunter, Ian Craven, Matthew Simpson, Robert Matthews and teenage sub Daniel Hunt. Scorers for Rimington were Ryan McCarthy, Gary Jackson and Ben Hallam.

Pendle Renegades, newly crowned Champions of Craven Leagues Division One gave Settle United a fright before losing a penalty shoot out by four goals to one after extra time. Pendle had taken the initiative with their fast direct play which unsettled their opponents and were rewarded by a 27th minute goal from Jordan Slade. Settle pushed hard in the second half and levelled on 67 minutes through Mark Loughlin. Pendle had the chance to seal the game but missed a penalty and it looked ominous for them when Tom Strickland scored in a goalmouth scramble; however to Pendle’s credit they levelled matters when Slade scored his 2nd goal with a powerful taking it to a penalty shoot out.

Morrison Cup Final Result

Hellifield Sports FC  4  Sedbergh Wanderers FC  1 (AET)

Morrison Cup Final

Hellifield Sports lifted the Morrison Cup after a 4-1 victory over Sedbergh Wanderers. This was a feisty and competitive encounter with the winners requiring extra time to seal the game. Hellifield, winners of Division 3 in the Craven League had to withstand early pressure defending stoutly and relying on spasmodic breaks. It was they who took the lead in the 33rd minute through a Carl Stanford free kick. In the second half Sedbergh increased the tempo and scorned several chances before Aaron Siemaszko scored from the penalty spot with 5 minutes to go, much to the delight of their travelling support. In extra time a superbly struck shot from Kris Attewell restored the lead and Sebergh’s task was made harder when their goal scorer was sent off. Stanford completed his hat trick with two further goals. Both teams should be congratulated for a good old fashioned game of football full of pride and energy, full of skill to keep the large crowd on their toes.

Rolls FC Reserves  6  Skipton Town AFC Reserves  1

Rolls Res retained the Norman Pratt Trophy when they defeated Skipton Town Res last Thursday night at Gargrave AFC by the margin of 6-1.The more experienced Rolls outfit soon had a two goal lead on a pitch that was covered in hailstones minutes before kickoff, although Town pulled a goal back to give them some hope, Rolls ability to control the game made it a hard task for them and just before the break Rolls increased their lead. Their clinical finishing in the second half took the game away from the gallant losers who throughout tried to match their higher division opponents with some delicate football but were let down in their finishing.
